Morocco-Israel Relations Reboot Sparks Economic Opportunities and Tourism Boost

The relaunch of relations between Morocco and Israel is a source of economic opportunities for the two countries. Trade between the kingdom and the Hebrew state, which stood at 30 million euros before the normalization of relations, should now increase with the upcoming opening of a Chamber of Commerce.

The reopening of the liaison office, closed in 2002, could promote the development of economic ties and technology transfer as one of the pillars of the agreement with Israel, in addition to the resumption of direct air links.

In detail, two to four flights will be operated by Moroccan and Israeli airlines, with the arrival each year of 200,000 Israeli tourists to revive the tourism sector, which has been severely impacted by the epidemic.

For David Toledano, head of the Jewish community in Rabat and member of the board of the Moroccan employers’ association CGEM, the agreement should open up great economic opportunities for the two countries, particularly in industry, services and agriculture. This opportunity aims to make Casablanca a hub for air traffic between the United States and Israel.

While the kingdom is working to relaunch its relations with Israel, other economic operators hope for a boom in the kosher food industry.
