Morocco Gears Up for Influx of Israeli Tourists, Boosting Tourism Sector

Pending the reception of Israeli tourists announced for mid-March, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has launched a study on the expectations of these vacationers who could revive national tourism.
In addition to Israeli tourists, the call for tenders also concerns several foreign tourists from African countries and Portugal. The market, which is not yet awarded, should cost more than 2.6 million DH.
Before the restoration of relations between Morocco and Israel on December 10 last, the kingdom welcomed around 70,000 Israeli visitors each year, according to unofficial statistics. Thanks to the resumption of relations, the country could welcome, in a first step, 200,000 Moroccan tourists from the Jewish community established in Israel.
On the economic side, the first contacts have been made and the preparations continue for economic cooperation between the two countries. As for Royal Air Maroc, it is preparing to launch direct Casablanca-Tel Aviv flights as of January 16 next, at a rate of four frequencies per week. Large foreign airlines have also announced themselves by offering flights with stopovers in Europe.
