Morocco-Israel Diplomatic Ties Strain PJD’s Stance on Palestinian Cause

The normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel is embarrassing the Party of Justice and Development (PJD).
In a statement, the Islamist party welcomed the American recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara but reaffirmed its opposition to "the Zionist occupation and the crimes committed against the Palestinian people". However, the PJD did not mention the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel.
During a press conference, the party’s secretary general, Saâdeddine El-Othmani, who is also the head of government, stated that Morocco "will always maintain a firm position of support for the Palestinian cause". A few months ago, he had declared that he refused any normalization with the Zionist entity.
The PJD’s youth, on the other hand, reaffirmed on Saturday its "support" for the decision to restore diplomatic ties with Israel but does not adhere to "any normalization" with the Hebrew state.
