Morocco’s Islamist PJD Party Condemns Israeli Defense Minister’s Visit, Warns of ’Zionist Intrusion’

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) has still not digested the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel. The visit of the Israeli Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz to the kingdom has provoked a reaction from its Secretary General, Abdelilah Benkirane.
Like the previous visits of Israeli officials to Morocco, that of Benny Gantz is not to the liking of the PJD, which addressed the issue during a regular meeting of its general secretariat on November 29. In a statement, the Islamist party "warns against the danger of the Zionist intrusion into our country". Also, it has asked the "public authorities" to "not repress the various popular expressions supporting the Palestinian cause, opposing normalization and rejecting the Zionist occupation".
The party has also reaffirmed its "position of principle [...] which supports the just cause of the Palestinian people, rejects the occupation and condemns the various crimes committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people and the holy places". It also reiterated its "unconditional support for the efforts" of Morocco "to defend the cause of our territorial integrity, and its active participation in the face of the decisive external challenges that" the kingdom "is facing".
It should be noted that the statement of the PJD general secretariat does not specify the position of Abdelilah Benkirane on the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel, which became a reality on December 10, 2020 following the historic tripartite agreement signed with the United States, nor on the new security agreement initialed last week by Benny Gantz and Abdellatif Loudiyi.
