Moroccan Protesters Rally Against New Military Pact with Israel

The signing of the military agreement protocol between Morocco and Israel, which took place last week during Benny Gantz’s visit to Rabat, continues to stir up some pro-Palestine Moroccans who are organizing demonstrations in several cities of the kingdom.

Hundreds of Moroccans responded to the call of the Moroccan National Front for Support to Palestine to demonstrate against the normalization of relations with Israel and the recent signing of the military agreement between the two countries. During his two-day visit to Rabat on November 27 and 28, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz and his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Loudiyi, signed a protocol of agreement on military cooperation. This new partnership provides for collaboration between the two countries in the areas of intelligence, military industry, training (joint exercises between the Royal Armed Forces and the Israeli Defense Forces, the defense and security forces) and arms sales.

For its part, the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization condemned the signing of this agreement, which it considers "an attack on the national security of the Ummah, a violation of the principles of the Arab summits, the Arab consensus and the Arab Peace Initiative". Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zahri also condemned on Twitter the military agreement between Morocco and Israel, indicating that it "is detrimental to the region".
