Morocco Hosts Major UK Travel Industry Summit to Boost Tourism

The annual congress of British travel agents (ABTA) was held from October 10 to 13 in Marrakech. The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) brought together British tour operators, airlines, travel prescribers and media in order to present the tourism potential of Morocco once again.
The program of this major meeting between Moroccan and British tourism professionals included several business sessions led by experts and industry leaders. Adel El Fakir, Director General of ONMT, was pleased with this opportunity that will allow Morocco to showcase the new tourism offerings it has.
"For Moroccan tourism, it is a great opportunity to host the decision-makers and prescribers of the UK tourism industry. For us, the British market is a priority. And since the resumption of flights in February last, the figures show that we have returned to 70% of the 2019 performance," he said.
The British market is one of the most important for Morocco "with 600,000 British tourists welcomed in 2019 for a total of 2.2 million overnight stays. The strategic agreements signed in 2021 with leaders like Ryanair or currently being signed these days with EasyJet are the guarantee of a strong increase in capacity," specified Adel El Fakir.
This meeting in Morocco comes a few days after ONMT’s participation in the Travel Media Award in London and the visit to Marrakech of EasyJet’s Top Management.
