Morocco Aims to Boost UK Tourism with New Airline Deals

Morocco wants to reconquer the British market. In this sense, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has signed agreements with airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. Objective: to regain the pre-Covid figures.
Speaking at the ABTA 2022 travel convention, held in Marrakech from October 10 to 12, ONMT Director General Adel El Fakir said that the British market is a priority in the office’s marketing plan, as it is the second in terms of value with 600,000 British tourists welcomed in 2019, for a total of 2.2 million overnight stays.
The British market "is also a high value-added market in quantitative terms, offering the conditions for ambitious development in the coming years," he stressed, specifying "that currently, six companies - Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Tui Fly and Air Arabia - connect seven airports in Great Britain and Ireland to Marrakech, Agadir, Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Fez."
Regarding the health of the sector, the official assured that Moroccan tourism is fully relaunched. "Since the resumption of flights in February, the figures show that we have returned to 70% of our 2019 performance," he said. More specifically, in the first half of the year, the number of arrivals stood at 3.4 million tourists, four times more than in 2021. To this are added the 2 million tourists recorded in July, to reach a total of 5.4 million arrivals in the first seven months of the year.
