Morocco’s Tourism Revenue Surges 179%, Nearing Pre-Pandemic Levels

Tourism revenues amounted to some 36.7 billion dirhams at the end of last July, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), a strong increase of 179.1% compared to last year’s figures.
In its economic note, the DEPF indicates that this improvement is due, among other things, to the reopening of national borders, noting that the recovery rate compared to pre-health crisis figures has reached nearly 89%.
As for the number of tourist arrivals during the months of June and July, it stood at 3.2 million arrivals, almost the same figure as before the crisis (3.4 million). Overnight stays, on the other hand, amounted to 6.2 million, up 128.9% year-on-year compared to last year, but still very far from the 2019 figures.
The good figures seem to be confirmed for the month of July with a progression of about 18% compared to July 2019 after a 39% increase in June.
