Morocco's Health Insurance Fund Cracks Down on Fraudulent Medical Billing

The National Fund for Social Welfare Organizations (CNOPS) and the National Association of Private Clinics (ANCP) have, during a recent meeting held in Rabat, resolved to fight illegal billing.

"It was decided to generalize the dematerialization of coverage, initiated by CNOPS for the benefit of several providers. This, while allowing the verification of the rights status of the insured, also makes unnecessary the use of certain illegal billing practices," says a joint press release signed by Abdelaziz Adnan, director of CNOPS and Redouane Semlali, director of ANCP.

In this sense, awareness-raising actions will be initiated with all clinics and healthcare providers to accompany this measure and streamline information exchanges, the same source specifies.

On this occasion, the ANCP looked into the illegal billing methods of AMO benefits that led to the preventive suspension of some third-party payer clinics. It expressed its willingness to engage in a new type of collaboration with the managing body, which will be based on compliance with the regulations in force and the modernization of the management of coverage. For its part, CNOPS reiterated its agreement for the revaluation of underpriced heavy acts to relaunch the national conventions.

Ultimately, the partners agreed to initiate new relationships imbued with serenity and will, in order to coordinate efforts and facilitate the access of insured persons to AMO benefits, in compliance with the regulations and without prejudice to either the doctors and private healthcare establishments, nor to CNOPS as the managing body of the AMO.
