Morocco's Football Chief Dismisses Rumors of Coach Renard's Departure Ahead of 2019 AFCON

Faouzi Lekjaa said he was dismayed by the rumors announcing a possible departure of the national coach, Hervé Renard. In a statement to Radio Mars, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) believes that this information does not serve the national team, and disrupts the atmosphere prevailing within the Atlas Lions.

Optimistic about the chances of the national team at the 2019 CAN, Lekjaa does not appreciate the allegations about a possible departure of the national coach at the end of the African competition. "Our relationship is not governed by legal clauses, we will take stock to see if we can continue to collaborate or not, and this is what we will do after the next important step which is the 2019 CAN," Lekjaa said on Radio Mars.

According to several media sources, the federation had sent a strong message to the national coach, by avoiding inviting him to an important meeting on the future of national football. This information was denied by the president of the federation, but confirmed by Hervé Renard himself, who did not fail to announce: "not being invited to this meeting on the future of the sports policy of national football is a strong signal. If there was still any doubt about my future after the 2019 CAN, there is no more."

For Faouzi Lekjaa, these rumors only serve to disrupt the concentration of the national team, which should rather focus its efforts on the teams it has to face and it’s going to be tough, very tough.
