Morocco’s Coach Renard Aims for Third AFCON Title with Atlas Lions

The national coach, Hervé Renard, is optimistic about Morocco’s chances of winning the next Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2019). "We have ambition and must beat everyone. We have a very good team," he said on the CAF website.
Winner of the 2012 and 2015 editions of the African CAN, the coach of the Atlas Lions is the only one to have won the African competition with two different teams, Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire.
Although the national team is part of the "group of death", Hervé Renard is optimistic and capable of winning CAN 2019, and believes that it is his duty to make Moroccans happy and proud of their team.
He believes that the disqualification of the Atlas Lions in the first round of the last African edition and the bad experience during the World Cup should be sources of inspiration and motivation for the national team.
"Although we did not get the expected result, all Moroccans were proud of their team. Now we have to make them very happy again in Egypt," he said, referring to the participation in the 2018 World Cup.
The opening match of the Atlas Lions is scheduled for June 23 against Namibia, before facing the Ivorians and closing the first round with a last match against South Africa. They will have 40 million supporters behind them to support them in their quest for a second title.
