Morocco Foils ISIS-Linked Terror Plot After US Intelligence Tip

A special brigade of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) arrested on Thursday a Daesh supporter in Casablanca. According to intelligence received from the United States by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), he was involved in the preparation of a terrorist project aimed at seriously undermining public order.
Aged 29, the suspect was on a reconnaissance mission in Morocco where he made visits to identify certain security checkpoints, with the aim of attacking them to steal weapons. He was also looking for ways to join terrorist organizations in sub-Saharan Africa, Syria and Iraq.
The operation that led to his arrest was carried out in Casablanca, according to a BCIJ statement, which points out that the searches conducted allowed the seizure of digital media, mobile phones, SIM cards, a central unit and two laptops which have been made available to the scientific police for expertise. It is in close collaboration with the United States that Morocco was able to identify the accused and thwart his terrorist plan.
Pending the results of the investigation conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism cases, the suspect has been placed in custody.
