FBI Aids Morocco in Arrest of Suspected ISIS Recruiter Planning Terror Attack

Elements of the Special Force of the Directorate General of the Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), in coordination and under the on-site supervision of the judicial police officers of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), succeeded in arresting a 37-year-old individual, a supporter of the Daesh organization, active in the city of Berkane. He would be involved in the preparation of a terrorist project aimed at seriously undermining public order.
In a statement, the BCIJ said that it was based on joint technical research and investigations with the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America) that the individual was identified and his terrorist project was uncovered. The investigation reveals that the suspect was running a closed group on a communication platform with extremist objectives and projects, aimed at recruiting and indoctrinating people imbued with the takfirist ideology, in order to carry out terrorist acts against Moroccan and foreign interests and personalities on national territory.
The research and investigations carried out also show that he was in contact with the alleged emir of the terrorist cell dismantled by the security services of the city of Oujda on March 25, 2021, the same source continues. The suspect was counting on his advanced technical training in engineering to infiltrate automated data processing systems and hack the computer systems of certain vital targets, in order to provide financial support as part of the "istihlal".
Pending the disclosure of all the extremist activities attributed to him, the identification of his possible links with terrorist organizations inside and outside Morocco and the determination of all the contours of the terrorist project he was preparing and intended to commit on national territory, the suspected terrorist leader arrested was placed in custody.
