Morocco Faces Blood Shortage as COVID-19 Pandemic Impacts Donations

Morocco celebrated Saturday, December 5, the National Blood Donor Day, under the slogan, "blood donation is the responsibility of all". Every year, the National Blood Transfusion and Hematology Center raises awareness about the importance of blood donation.
Morocco needs 1,000 donations daily to meet the needs expressed by patients for blood bags. According to the center, in 2018 and 2019, the total number of donations collected by Morocco was the most encouraging. But this is not the case for this year 2020, where since the beginning of the appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic, the kingdom has recorded a significant decrease in the number of blood donations, while the needs are only multiplying.
The National Blood Transfusion and Hematology Center encourages Moroccans to donate this precious liquid that saves lives. It invites its national partners working in the field to participate in the development of a national blood collection program targeting self-sufficiency in blood products for each region.
