Morocco Urgently Seeks Blood Donors Amid COVID-19 Strain on Hospitals

Faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals need 70 blood bags per day. The prefecture of Tanger-Assliah is therefore launching an urgent appeal to the population to rebuild its reserves.
In a statement to the MAP, Mohamed Mouad Rouahi, director of the Tanger Regional Blood Transfusion Center, asked citizens holding an exceptional travel authorization to go to the Tanger Regional Blood Transfusion Center to donate blood while respecting preventive measures.
As for those who do not have one, he directed them to the auxiliary authorities. The latter can issue the document to them only to go to the transfusion center located on Avenue Al Massira in Tanger.
According to Rouahi, the center he runs needs 70 donors per day in order to build up a substantial blood stock at a time when Morocco is facing the coronavirus pandemic. This need, he explains, is justified by the fact that the number of blood bags decreases to 50 or 60 after laboratory tests. Moreover, the hospital establishments of the prefecture of Tanger-Assilah need 70 blood bags per day, specifies the director of the Tanger Regional Blood Transfusion Center.
In addition, the preventive rules and protocols, continues Rouahi, indicate that the blood transfusion centers must have a stock of 350 blood bags per week; which will make it possible to constitute the necessary blood stock and also to have the rare blood groups.
