Casablanca Hospitals Face Critical Blood Shortage Amid Pandemic

Casablanca is facing a worrying shortage of blood. The health crisis due to the coronavirus and its corollaries are the cause of this stock shortage in the metropolis.
According to Dr. Khadija Lahjouji, director of the National Blood Transfusion and Hematology Center of Morocco (CNTSH), this situation had been going on for a few weeks with a stock that was barely enough to cover the needs of a single day.
While the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a national stock reserve of 7 days, Morocco has a stock of only 3,105 bags to cover the needs of 4 to 5 days. In this regard, the director has called on the population to mobilize to make up for this shortage. She also assures that health protection measures are taken at the level of the regional blood transfusion centers, to guarantee the safety of donors.
