Morocco Eyes Olympic Coach Sektioui to Lead CHAN 2025 Campaign

Tarik Sektioui, the coach of the Moroccan Olympic team, is expected to lead the Moroccan team to the final phase of the African Nations Championship (CHAN - local players) which will be held jointly in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, from February 1 to 28, 2025.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation is considering appointing Sektioui as the head of the national team that will participate in this continental competition, indicate sources, specifying that the choice of the latter is justified by the historic feat he achieved with the Olympic team at the Paris Games by winning the bronze medal.

Sektioui knows the Moroccan championship well, having coached several local clubs or called up certain players for the Paris Olympics. Barring any surprises, Morocco should take part in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) which will take place from February 1 to 28, 2025, jointly between Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The CHAN qualifiers are scheduled between October and December next. The first round of qualifications will take place between October 21 and 27, announced Cameroonian Seidou Njoya, the fourth vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

"I am convinced that the 2025 African Nations Championship will be the best edition in the history of this continental competition," said Patrice Motsepe, the CAF president, from Nairobi where the executive committee meeting was held. Note that Senegal won the CHAN 2023 after beating Algeria, the host country, on penalties (5-4).
