Morocco U-25 Policy Challenges Olympic Coach for CHAN Squad Selection

Tarik Sektioui, the coach of the Moroccan Olympic team, seems to be struggling to put together his list of players for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN). The reason is the Moroccan Football Federation’s decision to only allow players born in 2000 or later to participate in this competition.
The coach of the Atlas Lions, Walid Regragui, in search of new talent, reportedly advised the FRMF to impose on Sektioui to call up only players aged 25 or younger to take part in the African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for July-August in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
Tarik Sektioui is said to have even written to Fouzi Lekjaa asking for permission to field talented Botola players who do not meet this age criterion. But the president of the Moroccan football federation reportedly rejected this request, putting the Olympic team coach in great difficulty.
Since taking over the Olympic team, the Moroccan technician has faced several challenges, particularly related to managing upcoming training camps in accordance with the program established by the federation. Sektioui also fears that some clubs may refuse to release their players.
