Morocco Automatically Qualifies for CHAN 2024 After Algeria’s Withdrawal

Morocco will not play the qualifiers for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The Moroccan team is automatically qualified for the final phase following the withdrawal of Algeria, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Wednesday.
Due to the withdrawal of Algeria and Egypt, which has never participated in this tournament, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya are automatically qualified for the final phase of CHAN, the CAF announced during the draw ceremony for the qualifiers of the competition, which took place on Wednesday at its headquarters in Egypt.
As a result, the three countries representing North Africa at CHAN 2024 will not play the qualifying phase, the governing body of African football specified. The continental competition will be played in February 2025, jointly with Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the three countries selected to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tarik Sektioui, coach of the Moroccan Olympic team, has been appointed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to lead the local Atlas Lions at CHAN 2024. The Moroccan technician has already drawn up his list of players, most of whom come from AS FAR de Rabat, Raja de Casablanca and Wydad de Casablanca.
Sktioui has planned a first gathering for this October. It should be recalled that Morocco has already won two CHAN: the first in 2018 at home, and the second in 2020 in Cameroon.
