Morocco Expands Local Government, Creates New Administrative Divisions

The government council, which met in session on Thursday, adopted a draft decree creating new administrative units.
By this decree, the number of circles at the national level will increase from 206 to 209, and the number of caïdats will now be 718 instead of 714, according to the government spokesman.
Draft Decree No. 2.20.584 aims to strengthen the management capacity of the territorial administration of certain regions of Morocco. It also aims to accompany demographic, social and urban changes.
This draft decree presented by the Minister of National Education during the Government Council also proposes to adapt the denomination of two caïdats under the province of Sidi Bennour to the standards.
