Morocco Advances Official Status of Amazigh Language with New Government Commission

The Council of Government, which met on Thursday in Rabat, adopted several draft decrees, including one that sets the composition and operating procedures of the Interministerial Commission responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the official status of the Amazigh language.
The presentation of this draft decree was made by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The text highlights the stages of the implementation of the official status of the Amazigh language and the modalities of its integration into education and into the various sectors of public life.
The text also sheds light on the participation of the National Council of Moroccan Languages and Culture, the Higher Council of Education, Training and Scientific Research in the first meeting of each year, devoted to the examination of action plans and sectoral programs related to the implementation of the official status of the Amazigh language.
According to Minister Amzazi, the decree also pronounces on the functioning of this Commission through the holding of at least two meetings per year, convened by the president. As for the permanent secretariat, its purpose is to prepare the meetings, to draw up an annual summary report on the level of implementation of the projects, all in coordination with the government institutions concerned.
