Morocco Emerges as Top Destination for French Expats, Citing Job Opportunities and Low Costs
Morocco is attracting more and more French people, who are the largest foreign community in the kingdom. There were 51,008 of them registered with the consular registers in 2021. What are the assets of this destination?
Morocco has assets that seduce the French. We can mention among others, employment opportunities, an attractive tax policy or the low cost of living. In Morocco, the French have the possibility to access several positions of responsibility both in Moroccan, French or international structures investing in particular in the energy, aeronautics, automotive and tourism sectors, reports La Dépêche.
The tax policy is an element that attracts companies from the Hexagon. These are also at the top of foreign operators in Morocco, with more than a thousand French SMEs, 100,000 jobs, 700 subsidiaries, and an estimated investment stock of 15 billion euros. According to the French Consulate General in Fez, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morocco (CFICM) is the largest of the 115 French Chambers of Commerce and Industry abroad. It has more than 3,750 member companies.
In addition to these assets, what also attracts the French is the lower cost of living - 40% cheaper than in France - but also the tax regime which is more advantageous than that of the Hexagon. A reduction is granted to anyone who lives there for more than 183 days a year. Aware of these assets, French retirees have made it their favorite destination and many are settling in the kingdom.
