Morocco Emerges as Top Winter Destination for French Senior Travelers

The gradual lifting of restrictions is facilitating the return of French senior tourism. They are returning to warm up in the sun in Morocco, with the plane ticket and the stay package being affordable.
"Morocco and Tunisia are the two destinations that capture this type of traveler simply because there is no language barrier. Some go to Portugal, but they generally have some knowledge of English. As for the Germans, we are talking about Turkey because the Turks speak German. Turkey is, in short, the Tunisia of German travelers," explains René-Marc Chikli, president of the Syndicate of Tour Operating Companies (France) in an interview with RTBF.
Another no less important aspect that encourages retirees to go to Morocco: the budget devoted to this type of tourism. "The cost of the flight is quickly amortized since the travelers leave for three months. As for accommodation, the budget is estimated at 200 euros per week. Hotels offer very attractive rates, with all-inclusive packages," details the union leader.
René-Marc Chikli also gives a brief genesis of senior tourism. "I remember that in 1995-1996, there was permanent staff working in the Eldorador vacation clubs. The low-cost market in air transport was not yet what it is today, but tour operators offered charters. Plane ticket prices were already very affordable. Low-cost has only taken up the economic strategy of charters."
