Morocco: an elected official caught in the act of corruption

The elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of Casablanca arrested on Friday in flagrante delicto of corruption a local elected official from the Istiqlal party, member of the municipal council of Ben Yakhlef in Mohammedia.
Alerted via the toll-free number dedicated to the fight against corruption, the gendarmes arrested the municipal councilor after he received the sum of 200 dirhams and a chicken from the hands of a poultry seller from Al Noor, commune of Beni Yakhlef, reports the daily Assabah.
It was the merchant who contacted the complaints processing cell, after having been cheated by the municipal councilor who failed to obtain a temporary public domain occupancy license for him. On the orders of the Mohammedia court prosecutor’s office, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie set a trap for the elected official to proceed with his arrest.
Placed in custody, the municipal councilor was presented on Sunday before the Attorney General of the King who decided to prosecute him while in custody.
