Moroccan Gendarmes Arrested in Anti-Corruption Sting Operation

Two members of the Royal Gendarmerie were arrested on Friday in broad daylight in the province of Khémisset. They are accused of having received a bribe. One of them, a warrant officer, was caught in the act by a national team of the Royal Gendarmerie dispatched from Rabat.
It was following a report to the toll-free number dedicated to corruption cases that the two men, serving in the Aït Ouribel area, were able to be caught in the act. A trap set by the person who filed the complaint allowed the two men to be apprehended as they were receiving 200 dirhams from the complainant.
Immediately taken to the police station, they were relieved of their weapons. A taxi driver, acting as an intermediary in the case, was also arrested. His file was forwarded to the court of first instance of Khémisset.
The two soldiers, prosecuted for corruption and for having solicited and accepted sums of money, will learn their fate at a hearing scheduled for January 28, 2025 before the Rabat court. Until then, only the warrant officer has been detained. The other gendarme is being prosecuted while at liberty.
