Marrakech Police Commissioner Arrested for Extorting Hotel Employee

A police commissioner in the city of Marrakech was arrested in flagrante delicto of extortion and corruption, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The officer is suspected of having solicited a bribe from a hotel employee in exchange for facilitating an administrative procedure.

The judicial investigation was opened on Friday following a complaint filed by the victim. The latter accuses the commissioner of having threatened and forced her to pay him a sum of money so as not to follow up on an offense related to her professional activity.

The person concerned would have been arrested in the act of receiving a bribe of 10,000 dirhams. He was taken into custody and will be brought before the public prosecutor for the appropriate legal proceedings.

In parallel with the criminal proceedings, the DGSN announced that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against the police commissioner at the end of the judicial investigation.
