Police Corruption Scandal Rocks Béni Mellal: Officers Arrested for Extortion

Two police officers, an officer and an inspector, were arrested on Thursday, September 25 in Béni Mellal, suspected of corruption and extortion.

One of the two police officers was apprehended in the act, while he was receiving a sum of money as a bribe. A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.

The case came to light following a complaint filed by two citizens. The latter accused the two police officers of having demanded money from them in exchange for their "abstention from performing an act of their duties", a form of blackmail using their authority.

Following their arrest by the regional brigade of the judicial police, the two civil servants were placed in custody on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office. The investigation continues to "reveal all the circumstances and the background of this case".

In parallel, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) took an administrative measure by deciding on their "temporary suspension" pending the outcome of the judicial procedure.
