Morocco Eases Vehicle Import Rules for Expats Returning Home

As part of "Marhaba 2019", the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) has made public a circular. According to this document, it has taken three measures. These facilitate the entry and use of their vehicles in Morocco by Moroccans residing abroad (MRE).

The adaptation of the Moroccan customs computer system to the temporary admission of means of transport of Moroccans abroad. The first measure taken by the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) in favor of these types of travelers.

From now on, the customs computer system records the vehicles that Moroccans from abroad bring to Morocco during the summer. These means of transport are in temporary admission on the territory. They are then issued a document that they will present on the occasion of checks.

In effect since January 1, 2019, this measure "is part of the ADII’s digitization strategy," according to customs. In addition, it allows to "facilitate the passage during the completion of the customs formalities for the temporary admission of vehicles."

[...] the lifting, in the event of continuous stay, of the condition of interruption of stay of at least 24 hours to claim the benefit of the remaining temporary admission of a vehicle for the current year". According to the circular note, this is the 2nd measure adopted by customs. Consequently, the vehicle importer does not need to leave Morocco before taking advantage of it.

Thirdly, the ADII authorizes ascendants to drive a vehicle registered abroad and placed in temporary admission. This advantage also goes to spouses and descendants, without the obligation of a power of attorney.

All these innovations to facilitate the summer travels of Moroccans residing abroad are contained in a guide entitled "Moroccans of the world 2019". It can be consulted on the ADII website.
