Morocco Clarifies Rules for Expats Leaving Vehicles Behind During Travel

Very often, on the Bladi.net forums, members wonder about the possibility for Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to leave Morocco without their car, whether for an emergency or for any other reason. The Moroccan customs answer this in their guide for Moroccans of the world.
Here is the response from the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) as written in this guide, in order not to distort the response:
"In the event of a return abroad, for professional, family or health reasons, the MRE is authorized, during the validity period of the temporary admission, to place his vehicle admitted under this regime in a place of his choice (private or public garage), without customs sealing and exempt from formalities".
And this guide adds: "This facility is granted only during the validity period of the temporary admission. The re-export of the vehicle must be realized before the expiry date of the granted period, by the beneficiary of the temporary admission himself or, in case of impediment or incapacity of the latter, by a natural or legal person mandated by him and authorized by the Administration, regardless of any possible contentious aspect".
However, the Moroccan customs warn that "when the temporary admission has expired, the person concerned must subscribe to an affidavit, in accordance with the model in the annex, to regularize, upon his return to Morocco, on the one hand, the customs status of his vehicle and, on the other hand, the dispute relating to the exceeding of the temporary admission period.
This facility is granted by the local authorities."
Attention: "It should be specified that during the absence of the importer, the vehicle in question must under no circumstances be used by a third party."
