Morocco Eases Customs Rules for Diaspora Travelers, Simplifies Border Entry

Better welcoming Moroccans of the World. This is the credo of the Moroccan customs. It has just relaxed some rules intended to facilitate the passage of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) at border posts, including the most important of them, Tanger-Med.
In a circular published at the beginning of June, the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) has announced several new features that should satisfy Moroccans of the World, especially those who travel to Morocco by car.
The first concerns the end of the temporary admission forms for means of transport, according to the D16ter, D16bis and D716 models. These are the famous green forms, made up of three parts, that Moroccans had to fill out upon entry into the territory.
"Thus, since January 1, 2019, the temporary admission of means of transport, imported by persons having their habitual residence abroad, is taken care of on the computer system of the Customs Administration, based on the information provided by the traveler, for the identification of his means of transport. A document, according to the attached model, issued from the system, is delivered to the person concerned to present it on the occasion of any control on the national territory," writes the Customs.
In other words, you provide the registration certificate and an ID and the Customs agents take care of this procedure, providing a small cardboard card, similar to a bank card, which he must absolutely present on the day of his departure from Morocco.
Furthermore, according to the Customs, "this new measure, which is part of the Administration’s digitization strategy, will allow for faster and smoother passage when completing customs formalities for the temporary admission of vehicles."
There is also the issue of people to whom the MRE can lend his car in Morocco. "The driving of a vehicle registered abroad, placed under the temporary admission regime, is extended to ascendants, in addition to spouses and descendants, also residing abroad and this, in dispensation of power of attorney," the Customs said.
The last measure follows the grievances expressed by the MREs. It concerns "the lifting, in case of continuous stay, of the condition of interruption of stay of at least 24 hours to claim the benefit of the remaining temporary admission of a vehicle for the current year. Local officials (Ordonnateurs) now authorize this type of extension without the vehicle importer having to leave the national territory."
