Morocco drug bust: 700kg hashish hidden watermelons Tangier

The operation took place during the night of Saturday to Sunday in the Ksar Sghir area, near Tangier. Judicial police officers from Tangier, mobilized based on information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, intervened with the support of the Royal Gendarmerie. Four people, suspected of being linked to a criminal network specializing in international drug trafficking, were arrested aboard three vehicles.

The most spectacular seizure was made during the search of one of the suspects’ homes. Police officers discovered 700 kg of hashish distributed in plastic packages prepared for export. The particularity of this hiding place: the packages had been shaped to resemble watermelons, a method designed to complicate their detection.

The four suspects, aged 32 to 39, all had criminal records related to violence and drug trafficking. They were placed in police custody as part of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office.
