Morocco: Dismantling of a network involving civil servants in the theft of seized goods

The operation was carried out by the regional brigade of the judicial police of Fès, based on precise information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST). The suspects are being prosecuted for the misappropriation and squandering of public funds, theft, breach of trust, forgery, and use of forged documents.

The investigation indicates that the network had specialized in the theft of vehicles, motorcycles, and electronic devices that had been seized by the justice system and stored in the municipal impound lot of the city of Oujda.

Once the goods were stolen, the suspects would forge the vehicle registration plates or dismantle them to resell the parts on the second-hand markets.

Among the 17 people arrested are the manager of the municipal impound lot in Oujda, as well as three employees of the same public service. The searches carried out as part of this case led to the seizure of 10 cars, 17 motorcycles, 38 metal vehicle bodies that had already been dismantled, and a set of spare parts.

Twelve of the suspects have been taken into custody, while the other five have been subjected to the judicial investigation, which is ongoing under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. The objective is to determine the full extent of the network’s ramifications and the exact criminal acts attributed to each individual.
