Morocco Declares State of Health Emergency, Restricts Movement to Combat Coronavirus Spread

In accordance with the government’s decision to keep the epidemic under control, the state of emergency came into effect this Friday at 6:00 p.m. (GMT +1), until further notice.
Faced with the spread of the coronavirus, the government has decreed this exceptional measure to limit movements, which will now be subject to obtaining an "official document".
On the roads and at strategic intersections, police and gendarmerie elements have begun the systematic control of the few rare passers-by in the deserted streets, to verify the official documents.
This official document was distributed during the day on Friday, March 20, at each home to avoid the movement of populations to the administrations.
According to the ministry’s press release, the document concerns exclusively adults, who can also ensure the movement of children who are under their responsibility, in case of extreme necessity and within the limits of the exceptions already announced.
According to the ministry, the exceptional travel authorization remains valid until the end of the state of health emergency. This measure could limit the spread of the virus in the kingdom, which now has 86 positive cases.
