Morocco Imposes State of Emergency, Restricts Movement to Combat Coronavirus Spread

Morocco has just declared a state of health emergency and restricted movement starting this Friday, March 20, 2020 at 6 pm until further notice.
According to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, this decision represents the only way to keep the coronavirus under control. According to the same source, the state of health emergency does not mean the cessation of economic activity, but the taking of exceptional measures imposing the limitation of the movement of citizens.
In this regard, leaving home will now be conditional on obtaining an official document duly signed and stamped by one’s company.
The same press release states that travel will only be authorized for people whose presence at the workplace is necessary; to supply essential daily necessities within the perimeter of the place of residence; for medical reasons: care or medication from pharmacies.
In addition, all citizens are required to comply with these mandatory measures under penalty of the sanctions provided for in the Penal Code.
