Morocco Cracks Down: Hotel Closed for Pool Party, 12 Restaurants Shuttered for COVID Violations

On the orders of the wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region, a hotel was closed for having organized a pool party, 12 restaurants suffered the same fate in Agadir. These establishments have trampled on the health measures enacted to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the kingdom.

The elements of the Marrakech gendarmerie have opened a judicial investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, against the managers of a hotel that had organized an event by the pool, reports Assabah. Before the opening of the investigation, the wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region ordered the closure of this hotel establishment. This decision follows the dissemination on several electronic sites and social networks of photos documenting the holding of a musical party within a hotel establishment under the territorial jurisdiction of the prefecture of the province of Al Haouz.

In a press release, the Marrakech-Safi region stated that the prefectural services have initiated investigations on this subject, in coordination with their counterparts in the prefecture of Al Haouz and the royal gendarmerie. In this context, a joint commission went to the establishment concerned last Friday to conduct an administrative investigation, which revealed that the hotel unit organized an entertainment activity on July 29, 2021, in the main pool area of the structure, in flagrant violation of the measures announced by the public authorities within the framework of the state of health emergency to deal with the spread of the coronavirus, specifies the same source. The result? Closure of the establishment in question then opening of a judicial investigation.

In Agadir, the local authorities have closed 12 restaurants for non-compliance with the measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 following a large-scale inspection carried out by the competent anti-Covid commissions.
