Newlywed Arrested at Wedding Party for Violating COVID-19 Restrictions in Morocco

While celebrating his wedding party in Beni Mellal, a newlywed was arrested and then placed in custody at the gendarmerie, where he spent the night. He is accused of having trampled on the restrictive measures enacted to curb the spread of the coronavirus and its variants in the kingdom.
Despite warnings from local authorities, a wedding party took place last Thursday in the commune of Tagzuirte, in the Beni Mellal region, reports Assabah. While the guests and the newlyweds were in the midst of celebrations, the elements of the royal gendarmerie descended on the scene. It was a general rout. The guests managed to flee towards the mountainous and hard-to-access area.
The newlywed was not so lucky. He was arrested and then taken to the gendarmerie where he was placed in custody. During his interrogation, "the newlywed denied having knowledge of the restrictive measures prohibiting the organization of wedding ceremonies or being warned by the competent authorities to postpone his party. He was later released after paying a fine of 1200 DH.
