Morocco Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions: 9PM Curfew and Travel Bans for Major Cities

The government has just announced a series of restrictive health measures, including a national curfew from 9pm to 5am, a ban on travel to and from Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir. These measures, which will come into effect on Tuesday, August 3 at 9pm, aim to control the Covid-19 pandemic.
Night travel is prohibited from 9pm to 5am in the morning, a government statement said. Similarly, it is forbidden to travel to and from the cities of Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir. "Excluded from this decision are vaccinated persons holding a ’vaccination passport’ certificate, persons with urgent medical conditions, persons in charge of transporting goods and merchandise, as well as public and private sector workers holding a ’mission order’ with a document signed and stamped by their superiors at work," the same source specifies.
All businesses, cafes, restaurants and cafes must close at 9pm. Total closure of hammams, gyms and indoor pools. Gatherings and activities in indoor or outdoor spaces are limited to a capacity of 25 people, with the obligation to obtain authorization from the local authorities in case of exceeding this limit, the statement continues. As for hotels and other tourist establishments, they must not exceed 75% of their capacity. Remote work in the public and private sectors is encouraged.
The government also specifies that all other precautionary restrictions previously approved in the event of a health emergency: preventing commemorative ceremonies, banning the organization of weddings and parties, limiting the capacity of public transport, restaurants, cafes and public pools to 50%, restricting travel between workers and regions with the obligation to issue a vaccination certificate or an administrative travel authorization issued by the local authorities... are maintained.
