Morocco’s COVID-19 Reproduction Rate Falls to 0.84, Infections Decline Nationwide

The Ministry of Health announced that as of January 31st, the reproduction rate (R0) of Covid-19 has improved and stabilized at 0.84. The recent declines in infections have led to a decline in the epidemiological curve, which has been set at 26.4%.
According to the head of the communicable diseases division at the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih, the downward trend has been observed in the regions of Guelmim-Oued Noun (-78.5%), Fès-Meknès (-65.1%), Draâ-Tafilalet (-38%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (-32.6%), Souss-Massa (-32.6%), Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (-26.5%), Casablanca-Settat (-22.9%), Marrakech-Safi (-22.6%), the Oriental (-14.5%), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (-7.4%) and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (-6.5%).
Contrary to the other regions, the weekly epidemiological curve has seen an increase in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region (+55.6%), noted the official. He also specifies that the curve of deaths has seen a decline of 40% over the last two weeks. As for active cases, they have fallen by 22% compared to 24% for cases in intensive care.
Morocco is ranked 34th worldwide and 2nd in Africa in terms of the number of cases, compared to 37th worldwide and 3rd in Africa for the number of deaths. As for the number of tests performed, the kingdom is ranked 40th worldwide and 2nd in Africa.
During his presentation, the head of the communicable diseases division at the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control called on Moroccans to respect preventive health measures to limit the spread of the virus, namely wearing protective masks, regular hand washing and physical distancing. He also called on them to be vigilant during this vaccination campaign period. Five days after the launch of the vaccination campaign by King Mohammed VI, 257,291 people have already been vaccinated.
