Morocco’s Covid-19 Reproduction Rate Falls to 0.80, Health Ministry Reports

The recent declines in Covid-19 cases have led to a decline in the reproduction rate (RO). It stood at 0.80 on January 5, 2021 compared to 0.93 on December 20, announced the head of the communicable diseases division at the Ministry of Health, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih.
During a presentation of the biweekly assessment, on Tuesday, on the epidemiological situation, the ministry official welcomed this improvement in the reproduction rate. According to Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih, this stabilization of the R.O is the result of the efforts made and the preventive health measures enacted by the competent authorities and respected by the citizens. These efforts must continue in order to reduce the virus reproduction rate to -0.7 soon.
He also dwelt on the evolution of the weekly epidemiological curve related to coronavirus in Morocco. According to him, it has declined up to -26% as of January 3 in 10 regions including Darâa-Tafilalet (-48.9%), the Oriental (-43%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (-38.9%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (-33.3%), Casablanca-Settat (-29.3%), Souss-Massa (-25.6%), Fès-Meknès (-24.2%), Marrakech-Safi (-23.2%), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (-20.2%) and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (-10%).
As for Béni Mellal-Khénifra (+2.5%), it recorded an increase of +2.5% in active cases. In addition, the death curve has seen a decline of -13.4% until January 3.
