Morocco’s COVID-19 Reproduction Rate Stabilizes at 0.93, Weekly Cases Drop 12.2%

The Ministry of Health has announced that as of December 20, the reproduction rate (R0) of Covid-19 in Morocco is showing a slight continuous improvement and is stabilizing at 0.93.
During the presentation of the biweekly report on the epidemiological situation, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih, head of the communicable diseases division at the Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health, indicated that the weekly epidemiological curve related to coronavirus in Morocco has evolved with a 12.2% decrease until December 20.
This downward trend has been observed, particularly in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region (-50%), Souss-Massa (-38.8%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (-23.1%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (-22.6%), Beni Mellal-Khénifra (-15.6%), Casablanca-Settat (-9.9%), Marrakech-Safi (-6%), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (-5.2%) and Fès-Meknès (-2%), he said.
On the other hand, the weekly epidemiological curve is on the rise in the Drâa-Tafilalet (+15%), Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (+7.2%) and the Oriental (+3.9%) regions, the official added, before stressing that the death curve has recorded a 12.1% decrease over the past two weeks.
As of December 22, the official report shows 420,648 cases of contamination, 382,925 recoveries, 7,030 deaths, 3,902,341 excluded cases and 30,693 active cases, including 1,039 in serious condition (81 under intubation and 698 under non-invasive ventilation).
