Morocco Considers Health Pass for Diaspora and Tourists to Boost Tourism

Morocco would be seriously considering adopting a health pass for [Moroccans living abroad (MRE)] and tourists. A vaccination passport in the form of a vaccination certificate that will allow travel in complete safety with fewer possible restrictions, according to the expert, Malika Lahnait, a lawyer at the Paris Bar, specializing in air transport and tourism law.
Far from the 13 million visitors in 2019, the international tourism market in Morocco has experienced a dizzying drop due to Covid according to the UNWTO. The solution could be the vaccination passport. This is what can be understood from the development made by the tourism expert, Malika Lahnait in an interview with Atlasinfo. According to her, this system will allow Morocco to set up an electronic registration platform for all vaccinated tourists and Moroccans living abroad without endangering public health.
A source at the Ministry of Health indicated that the Moroccan health passport will take the form of a certificate of anti-Covid-19 vaccination, which travelers will soon be able to download on the official vaccination campaign website. "On the Liqahcorona.ma portal, there is a section where you can retrieve a vaccination certificate, as soon as the two vaccine doses have been administered. For the moment, this section is deactivated, but once the second doses start to be administered, the certificate will be downloadable," the ministry said.
But this ambition could be delayed due to the requirements of the European Union, recalls Malika Lahnait, according to whom the area will only accept people who have received a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency.
However, the Chinese vaccine used in Morocco as in many other countries is not currently authorized in Europe, like the Sputnik vaccine. It is therefore necessary to hope that the European authorities will revise their position in order to welcome tourists from around the world, she concludes.
