Morocco Coach Warns Players Against Skipping African Cup Amid Club Pressure

National coach Vahid Halilhodzic says he will be intransigent with players who boycott the national team during the CAN, because they are influenced by their European clubs.
Speaking about the threats made by European clubs demanding the cancellation of the CAN, due to the spread of the Omicron variant, the coach of the Atlas Lions expressed his disagreement, denouncing their inappropriate attitude.
According to him, "the health situation is becoming more and more complicated and difficult." "There is a big question, will it take place or not? For now, it’s a big battle between different lobbies. The players are forced to come to the national team, but all the clubs are doing everything to prevent the players from coming, some have threatened players, told them they could lose their place, be transferred..." he said.
"Presumably, it will be a big problem to have all the players who play in Europe. On my side, if the player does not come, it means that his attachment to the national team is not present enough [...], I can refuse to take someone in the group who refuses to come, even if the threat exists from the clubs. He can say goodbye to the national team," he threatened.
