Morocco Clarifies: Vaccine Pass Alone Not Sufficient for Nighttime Travel Between Cities

Since last Friday, new measures have come into effect in Morocco, following the emergence of many outbreaks of contamination. But Moroccans do not all make a better reading of the new restrictions. This is the case of the vaccine pass which, according to some, allows people who have received the two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to move freely between cities and regions of the country, between 11 p.m. and 4:30 a.m.

Le360 learned from government sources that the vaccine pass "alone cannot allow a traveler to travel between 11 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., if he does not have a special authorization." Moreover, the police and royal gendarmerie services have all received a circular giving them full power to stop any traveler who only has a health pass. "Any person who does not have a special authorization to travel during this night-time slot is considered in violation of the regulations, even if he has a vaccine pass."

If the traveler is intercepted and checked between two cities, "he is automatically turned back to his place of origin after paying a fine of 300 dirhams for each offense." However, the vaccine pass remains valid and authorized for inter-city travel.

To cope with the surge in cases of contamination, the government has taken new measures including "the ban on night-time travel nationwide from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. People working in vital and essential sectors and those representing urgent medical cases are excluded from this ban."
