Morocco car sales boom: electric vehicles reshape market 2026

According to the latest data from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), sales are soaring with 81,518 units sold in the first four months, marking a jump of nearly 23%. While this momentum is partly driven by the renewal of an aging fleet, a genuine shift is occurring toward higher-performance models. The share of electrified passenger cars is skyrocketing to reach 17% of the market. This rapid transition particularly benefits plug-in hybrids and fully electric versions, expensive segments that today embody the new face of luxury and innovation.

Despite a tense global geopolitical climate, this move upmarket is accompanied by a massive offensive from Chinese manufacturers. Now representing more than 11% of market share, compared to a modest 1% in 2024, eighteen Asian brands are shaking up the sector. AIVAM notes that this rapid growth plays a "key role in democratizing electrified powertrains". These brands are introducing unprecedented technological categories, such as range-extended electric vehicles (REEV), attracting demanding customers seeking premium equipment and diversity.

For now, overall volumes remain largely monopolized by historical giants. Dacia maintains its crown by capturing more than 22% of purchases, closely followed by Renault. The rest of the rankings relies on proven values such as Hyundai, Peugeot, and Volkswagen. However, supported by increasingly flexible credit solutions and the excellent health of the tourism sector, buyer expectations are evolving rapidly. The growing appetite for electrified and fully-equipped models promises to reshuffle the cards against traditional leaders.
