Morocco Breaks Tourism Record with 10 Million Foreign Visitors in 2024

Morocco recorded a record number of foreign tourist arrivals in the first seven months of 2024, positioning itself as "a leading global tourism destination".

According to the Argentine magazine El Diario De VIAJE, specialized in travel, ten million foreign tourists visited Morocco between January and July 2024, an increase of 15% compared to the same period last year. This record positions Morocco as "one of the most popular and must-see destinations in North Africa," the magazine notes in an article published on Thursday and titled: "Morocco breaks a record of foreign visitors".

The author of the article states that "with these figures, Morocco continues to work to maintain this positive trend [...]. The government and private sector actors are developing new strategies to expand the tourism offer, improve the quality of services and attract even more visitors from various regions of the world".

In July, the kingdom welcomed 2.6 million tourists, an increase of 20% compared to July 2023, notes the magazine, citing data from the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts of the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance. These data "reinforce the success of the country’s tourism strategy, which continues to recover and grow after the pandemic".

The magazine distributed in Argentina and Uruguay also recalls that 14.5 million tourists visited Morocco in 2023, noting that "for this year, Morocco was aiming for an additional one million tourists, an objective that seems to be on the way to being achieved thanks to tourism promotion policies and the improvement of infrastructure". The publication also notes an 8.4% increase in overnight stays, reaching 12.7 million at the end of June 2024.
