Morocco Set to Overtake Egypt as Africa’s Top Tourist Destination in 2024

Moroccan tourism is experiencing strong growth. According to a French media, Morocco "should become the most visited country in Africa in 2024, just ahead of Egypt."
Arrivals have reached a record 16 million visitors in the kingdom since January and until November, up 20% from the same period last year". According to RFI, this "figure could continue to increase, as the Moroccan authorities hope to reach a new record next year with 17.5 million entries into the territory". The tourism industry in Morocco, which accounts for 7% of GDP, has already generated more than 9 billion euros in revenue this year, even before December. "Here too, the record should be broken for 2024," the media affirms. At this rate, Morocco should become the "most visited destination in Africa in 2024," ahead of Egypt, estimates the same source.
Marrakech is among the destinations favored by foreign tourists or Moroccans residing abroad. The "ochre city" is particularly well served by low-cost airlines. "For example, there are no less than 34 direct flights between France and Marrakech," the publication specifies. While the French remain the most represented nationality among foreign tourists, the British are becoming more numerous: 47% more than in 2023. In addition to Marrakech, Agadir or Tangier, or even Casablanca are also the preferred destinations of tourists.
