Morocco Boosts Customs Services for Returning Expats in Marhaba 2022 Operation

All the parties involved in the success of the Marhaba 2022 operation are mobilizing to play their part. This is the case of the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) which has taken new measures to facilitate the reception of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs).

The Moroccan authorities intend to give a special touch to the operation after two years of disruption related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, in a circular published on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the customs administration stressed that it is mobilizing all the necessary human and logistical resources for a quality reception service, in accordance with the standards and regulations in force.

Among the new facilitation measures put in place for the success of the Marhaba 2022 operation, there is the automatic extension until December 31, 2022, of the validity periods of the temporary admission (TA) accounts of vehicles, expiring during the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. The persons concerned are invited to approach the customs office of their choice to return the old TA card and recover the new one.

The ADII has also planned the authorization of transfers of motor vehicles imported under TA, between non-residents living in different countries if the beneficiary of the transfer (assignee) is himself the owner of the vehicle. Other facilities are planned for MREs aged 60 and over and justifying a stay abroad of at least 10 years.

Still with the aim of facilitating the task for MREs, many other measures have been taken by the Moroccan customs. Likewise, all central and regional services in charge of customer relationship management are asked to ensure the strict implementation of the commitments arising from the "Welcome Charter".
