Morocco’s Tanger Med Port Upgrades for Summer Influx of Overseas Residents

The port of Tanger Med has put in place special arrangements to accompany the return to Morocco of Moroccans Residing Abroad, as part of the "Marhaba 2022" operation, launched on Sunday.
The port authorities indicated that they took advantage of the suspension period to carry out work likely to improve the reception conditions for travelers. Thus, a budget of 150 million dirhams (MDH) has been mobilized to prepare the transit operation, in order to ensure the fluidity and comfort of passengers.
The measures taken also concern the strengthening of the maritime fleet deployed for the Tanger Med-Algeciras maritime links. The port now has a daily transport capacity of 40,000 passengers and 10,000 vehicles during high-traffic days, in accordance with the prerogatives of the Merchant Navy Directorate, they specified.
In addition, the necessary human resources have been strengthened to ensure the success of the "Marhaba 2022" operation, while respecting the health context and public health of citizens, they added, after noting that the Tanger Med port is the first gateway for Moroccans of the World to the Kingdom.
For the head of the medical-humanitarian pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Abdellah Omar Moussa, the transit operation should experience a "tangible evolution" this year compared to the last two years, marked by the exceptional circumstances related to the pandemic, estimating that more than 3 million Moroccans Residing Abroad should return to Morocco through the various maritime, air and land crossing points, as well as thousands of cars and buses.
