Morocco to Begin Mandatory Military Service for 15,000 Young Adults in September

Next September, military service will start for 133,820 young people registered on the electronic platform dedicated to this institution (Tajnid). The observation remains that, even if military service is not compulsory for girls, for the account of this first contingent, 13,614 of them have nevertheless registered, i.e. 10.17% of the total workforce.
For the first contingent, which will consist of 15,000 conscripts, the start is set for next September, for a duration of 12 months.
While physically unfit persons, those in charge of a family or having a brother or sister already performing military service, as well as the children of Moroccans living abroad, are exempt, military service remains compulsory for any young Moroccan aged 19 to 25, recalls L’Economiste. Furthermore, adds the same media, "in the eyes of the law, the pursuit of studies is also a reason for exemption from military service".
However, a source from the Ministry of the Interior informs that, during the first four months, the conscripts will be subject to a common basic training. To this end, they will be distributed in several training centers of the Royal Armed Forces, located in different regions of the country. These are: Kenitra, Fez, Casablanca, Témara, Benslimane, Salé and Meknes.
It is precisely "a training focused on the taste for effort, the sense of rigor and discipline, the values of citizenship, the respect of the symbols and institutions of the State", details the same source. As for the remaining eight months, "the young conscripts will receive specialized training in the trades of the training centers to which they belong. This course is intended to allow them to diversify their knowledge and skills", we learn.
