Morocco’s Beach Tent Dilemma: Comfort Clashes with Conservation

The anarchic installation of tents on Moroccan beaches is a recurring phenomenon during the summer season. While some citizens approve of this practice, others emphasize the need to preserve the integrity and cleanliness of the beaches.
Despite the efforts of local authorities to free the beaches from the grip of tents and parasols installed in an anarchic manner in order to allow visitors to fully enjoy the relaxation areas, these practices continue to be recorded in Morocco, giving rise to a lively controversy.
In a statement to Al3omk, a member of the National Authority for the Protection of Public Funds stated that the phenomenon ensures comfort and greater intimacy for vacationers. But at the same time, the installation of these tents is detrimental to the aesthetics of the beaches, he added, stressing that these practices contribute to the proliferation of waste and threaten the marine ecosystem.
Faced with the recurrence of the phenomenon, the official insisted on the need to organize this sector, by designating specific areas for the installation of tents and setting clear conditions such as the authorized duration and the size of the tents. He also called for raising awareness among vacationers about the importance of beach cleanliness in order to preserve their aesthetics.
